"See you in September" by the Happenings. For those of you that fall into the baby boomer era, you probably remember this tune and that summer love... ahh, the memories. Some good, maybe some not! And the baggage we may carry from summer end into the next season.
Life is about relationships that we carry with ourselves and with each other. How we handle those relationships can show up in many ways. Professionals in the traditions and non-traditional field have various trainings to help individuals deal with there physical, mental, emotional and "yes" spiritual stress or dysfunction.
The variety of these forms of modalities, services and products are so varied that even in a lifetime we could never know them all. The most natural way to bring homeostasis into balance is the best medicine in my own personal belief.
Being in the position I am as founder and executive director of the Holistic Mentorship Network, I have come to learn of the many different forms of natural health care that are out there (and still I know so little).
My background in the field of traditional and non-traditional health is as a pediatric long term nurse, massage therapist, cranial sacral therapy, somatic emotional release and reiki master. Working with both humans and animals I have discovered the bodies ability to heal on many different levels from personal experience, as well as professional.
The Holistic Mentorship Network "Holistic Directory" includes services such as bodywork, energy, movement, sound therapy, art therapy, hypnotherapy, social work, chiropractic, psychology and dream therapy and the list goes on and on. Check out our Holistic Directory!
One such therapy that I have come to embrace and be aware of is movement therapy. I have experienced Tai Chi and Qi gong as well as Watsu (a movement therapy in the water) and now Nia through one of our members Christine Clifton. Although I have yet to experience her class, her enthusiasm and the video's I have watched, thanks to "YouTube", have pumped my own desire to be a student of Nia.
This weekend (September 27th- Sunday) Christine and her partner Theresa will be hosting a "Gathering Of Woman In Autumn". A time to connect with woman and to honor yourself by giving yourself the gift of time; and time with other woman. So check your calendars, and if it fits join Christine and Theresa for an autumn harvest of sharing time with your sisters! Scroll down for further details to this event.
Other September gatherings are tonight's Natural Health Care Discussion Meeting with Susannah Pittman. Susannah is well versed in the highly media coverage of health care. Tonight's meeting is an opportunity to gain insight and knowledge so that you can walk away feeling informed and what you can do to take a proactive part in a health care reform that will have an effect of all of us.
It is time for all of us to be proactive in our lives-
Other ways to connect with your brothers and sisters are our Chapter Meetings. Thursday, September 24th, is the Butler Chapter Meeting and Friday, the 25th, is our Northwest NJ Chapter Meeting. The facilitators of all our chapters look forward to seeing and hearing how we can best support you in the upcoming year. This is a great way to connect with other holistic professionals and build every lasting relationships that will foster growth in your chosen profession. Scroll down for HMN Events that are happening this week in September!
Let us know how we can best support you? What are your needs, wants or desires? It does not matter how long you have been in this industry. We all have so much to learn from each other.
The Holistic Mentorship Network is here to support you, to be a catalyst in strengthening our industry and raise our consciousness to how we show up in our life, in our workplace and within the world.
The time is now to come together and create a synergy that will shift the consciousness of our industry "and provide the space to share, learn, teach, grow and lead."
It is said that we spend most of our time in procrastination . The portion of time we spend in procrastination can have a huge effect on whether we move in the direction of our dreams or vision.
Those that are successful business people have either learned or it comes naturally, where they spend their time in procrastination. Those successful in the "art of procrastination", procrastinate 80% of there time in those things that are not going to move them further ahead in their business.
It is those phone calls or marketing strategies that are moving them into the 20% category of highly successful business people.
Where do you spend most of your time? Learn to set your "to do" list (or what I like to refer to as my prosperity list) with those things you dread most or that will move you further ahead in your holistic business.
What time of day is your most highly functional? Set that as your time to get to the job that takes the most time or that you dread. This is the 20% bracket that highly successful people do not procrastinate in and choose to get the job done.
Then spend the other 80% of your time procrastinating with those ever ending emails that clog up your inbox and takes you into cyberspace and when you return the day is gone!
If you want to be a highly successful holistic business, then set your priorities differently!

Americans spent $33.9 billion out-of-pocket on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) over 12 months, according to a 2007 government survey. CAM is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products such as herbal supplements, meditation, chiropractic, and acupuncture that are not generally considered to be part of conventional medicine. CAM accounts for approximately 1.5 percent of total health care expenditures ($2.2 trillion) and 11.2 percent of total out-of-pocket expenditures (conventional out-of-pocket: $286.6 billion and CAM out-of-pocket: $33.9 billion) on health care in the United States.
Susannah states, "The government is putting a tremendous amount of energy into shifting our current health care system in order to make it more affordable and accessible for people. This shift may cause a large ripple effect throughout the health care system, making it necessary for all aspects of health care to change with the movement in order to continue practicing successfully."
The Holistic Mentorship Network will hold it first discussion meeting on September 23 starting at 7pm and will run till 9pm with Susannah facilitating the discussion for you to be heard. She encourages you to bring your thoughts and ideas to what will be an exciting, dynamic discussion on CAM therapies and health care reform.
