President Barack Obama
The Budget: Blueprint for the Future

Recently, President Obama submitted his first budget to Congress. The President said, the b
udget isn't just numbers on a page. It establishes our plans and priorities as we confront some of the longest-standing challenges this country has ever faced.

Watch a short video of President Obama introducing his budget.

With this budget, President Obama is asking Washington to look beyond the next election and take the long-term steps that he says will ensure America's future strength and prosperity.

It will involve sacrifices and difficult decisions. But it will also boldly invest in the three areas most critical to our economic future: energy, health care, and education.

The President proposes that:
Investing in a clean energy future will put America at the forefront of industry in the 21st centu
ry and create the jobs that will form a new foundation for the middle class.

Confronting the mounting cost of health care will put America back on a solid foundation so businesses can thrive and families can prosper.

Reforming and strengthening our education system will ensure American innovation and competitiveness well into the next century.

Susannah Pitman
MS, CA
Acupuncturist

Americans spent $33.9 billion out-of-pocket on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) over 12 months, according to a 2007 government survey. CAM is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products such as herbal supplements, meditation, chiropractic, and acupuncture that are not generally considered to be part of conventional medicine. CAM accounts for approximately 1.5 percent of total health care expenditures ($2.2 trillion) and 11.2 percent of total out-of-pocket expenditures (conventional out-of-pocket: $286.6 billion and CAM out-of-pocket: $33.9 billion) on health care in the United States

Susannah states, "The government is putting a tremendous amount of energy into shifting our current health care system in order to make it more affordable and accessible for people.  This shift may cause a large ripple effect throughout the health care system, making it necessary for all aspects of health care to change with the movement in order to continue practicing successfully."

The Holistic Mentorship Network will hold it first discussion meeting on September 23 starting at 7pm and will run till 9pm with Susannah facilitating the discussion for you to be heard.  She encourages you to bring your thoughts and ideas to what will be an exciting, dynamic discussion on CAM therapies and health care reform.

We read, you listen, we ALL decide.

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."  Preamble to the Constitution

...a more perfect union.

We lead busy lives. We have our work, our families, our homes and our communities. Any time left to read legislation? Legislation that will directly impact you, your families and communities. Few do."

Three voice over artists did this as a public service project.  Rather than reading 1,000 pages of legislation that will be voted on this month, you can listen to it instead and choose which parts you want to listen to.

Download the audio of this bill, and listen to it as you would an audio book, whenever it's convenient for you.
