| Postpartum DoulaAfter the birth of a newborn, a Postpartum Doula goes into the home and helps the family for the first few weeks. Each child, whether it's the first, second, third or fourth, changes the dynamics of the whole family. A doula performs several different duties in the home, allowing the mother to heal from her delivery and bond with her baby, while easing the family into their new roles. A Postpartum Doula: - Nurtures the mom; making sure she is well hydrated, fed and rested.
- Assists with breastfeeding; making sure the mom is comfortable and is knowledgeable about the different nursing positions; makes sure the baby has a good latch, answers questions, reduces fears, supports and reassures the mother, shows the dad how he can assist and support the mother with breastfeeding.
- Assists with newborn care and instruction.
- Assists with household chores: laundry, light snacks and meals, light housework.
- Assists with older siblings.
- Helps organize the nursery.
- Gives emotional support through active listening.
- Offers resources, if needed.
- Runs errands.
