Doula

A Labor Doula , also called a "birth assistant" or a "labor support specialist", is a person who is trained as an advocate, labor coach, and information source to give you and your partner the added comfort of additional support throughout the entire labor process.  After the birth of a newborn, a Postpartum Doula goes into the home and helps the family for the first few weeks.
